Too bad they didn’t include the Direzzas in there for comparison. Those BFGs and Bridgestones look pretty good, but everyone already knew that.

Yeah, I was kinda curious as to why they left them out. From what I’ve seen of the tires so far (not including the Khumos) I’d have ranked the top tires thusly:

1. RE71Rs
2. Rival S
3. ZII*
4. RS3 V2

With 3 and 4 being fairly interchangeable. Apparently the ZII* are killer in the wet though.

I am playing around with the idea of throwing some 225/45 V720s on the FR-S...

Most likely, but everything I’ve heard is that super sports tend to disappoint a bit in autocross. They’re a good street/occasional autocross tire, but not something you’d want to run dedicated.

Yes, the ZIIs are great in the rain when they have all of their tread. They wear pretty quickly though and get progressively more sketchy until you’re driving along one day and spin into a wall because of standing water. They aren’t like all seasons where they’ll stay pretty much fine until they end. It’s alot more linear.

I’d certainly agree with that. Sounds like the RE71-R is still the top dog, but the Kuhmos appear to offer decent competition to the very pricey Rival S.

Well I already know that the Primacy HPs are sketchy in the rain, even with a fair amount of tread. Learned that when I hydroplaned passing someone (at a not unreasonable or unsafe speed), spun out, went off the road, through a ditch, and into a line of bushes. :/

They will be my next tires, even though they aren’t the best for road comfort and noise. Especially compared to the PSS I have now.

I just put my old Primacys back on since i don’t track my BRZ any more and am already thinking about changing again. They’re so awful. They might be one of the worst tires I’ve ever used.

I’m going to run either RE71-Rs or the V720s as my dedicated autocross and occasional track day tire. The RE71-R wears way too fast for me to ever want to run them as dailies. My pockets aren’t deep enough for that. haha

Yeah, I need to replace them with some PSS for daily.

Although I’m actually considering putting them on, as opposed to my Koseis w/ old Rivals, for when I do my first track day. I figure it’ll be better to focus on the driving and learn my limits at the lower speed that the Primacy HPs will permit.

I wouldn’t be too worried about it. I’m sure that a lap and a half in, you’d be wanting for more grip. I really find the Primacys to be really edgy at the limit. It doesn’t let loose or regain traction like I’d expect. It’s too much like a switch. Personally, I’d be more worried about losing it at a slow speed and not being able to figure out what the car’s going to do than losing it at a faster speed with reactions I expect.

I was really worried before my first time on track, but any fear I had about my abilities went away pretty quickly. IIRC, you do iRacing. That translates shockingly well to the track. I was a fan of it before, but now I’m as big of a fan of it as a practice tool as a game. By my second flying lap, I was pushing.

I’ve got about 500 miles on my re71r set so far and they are amazing, coming from my eagle f1s to the bfg rival(2013 model) this spring it was an amazing difference. I warranteed them for a tread splicing issue but they gripped well but not nearly on the same level as the potenzas. They are quickly wearing away as well :(.

Indeed I do, and I’ve found it to be helpful even just in autocross. I’m sure I’ll recognize the benefit on the track too.

I had RE01A’s on my last car and they lasted 10k miles with 6 trackdays on them. It was either run them all the time OR purchase another set of wheels and tires (which costs as much as 2 sets of tires).

The RE71-Rs are a completely different beast. Everyone describes them as essentially having R-comp levels of grip and wear.

I have RS-3s, they’re fantastic. Considering they cost at least $30 less per tire than the others I’m glad it holds its own

Having seen what a Nationals-competitive (and former STR 2-time champ) and can do with a set of RE-71Rs, I can say with full confidence they are the absolutely hottest shit right now. His brand-new and 100% stock ‘15 Mustang GT with the sports package absolutely destroyed us at a recent autocross. He was third fastest overall in raw times out of a field of 67 cars.

The ZII* are great as well and were the top dog for a while but it seems like everyone in my region has already worn them out after just a single season. Granted, a lot of them either daily drove on them and/or went to track days. The new Rivals look like fun for next year...but who knows what hot tire might come out.

Yeah. I’ll likely go with 225/45 RE71-Rs for my FR-S before too long.
